Getting it Right in Camera

The challenge was "Blue". I wasn't feeling inspired but I was determined to enter something. It was the final day of the challenge and I had nothing.

It was during a period in which Covid numbers were low, so I was able to go on with my life in something approaching a normal manner. Trouble was that though there were interesting things around, none of them were blue. But this line of grey doors looked interesting.

Changing the colour of an image in Photoshop is easy, but for this particular challenge no editing was allowed. All changes had to be done in camera.

No problem. All I had to do was make a couple of changes to my normal settings. First change my white balance. Then I decided this scene would work best as a square, so that required another change to my settings.

So much easier than my usual workflow where editing takes a lot more time than getting the shot.

Unfortunately my preference for black and white images means I can't often work this way.

The Meeting

I love the way my fisheye lens manages to squeeze so much into the frame. This was a quick shot I grabbed as I was walking into the room where a bonsai meeting I attended this weekend was being held.

The Ceiling

I've been having fun playing with my fish-eye converter this week. I love the way it turns this ceiling into something almost abstract.

Table and Chairs

Once again I've picked a photo where everything isn't quite as it seems. In reality there were a lot less chairs than there are in this edited version.

Once I got started in Photoshop, I couldn't resist playing with the photo a bit more and eventually came up with an abstract which bears little resemblance to the original.

Windows

I love to take photos of reflections, but don't seem to take anywhere near as many of them as I'd like to. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. After all this photo was taken at a place I've visited frequently for several years, but I only noticed these patterns for the first time a few months ago.

Cactus Distortions

Sometimes photos don't work out quite how I hoped they would. This one was such a case.

After a lot of messing around in Photoshop, I managed to turn it into this:

Red and Gold

I've never really been a fan of abstract art, so it seems a bit strange to me that over the years I've developed a taste for abstract photography.

This is a macro of a red ribbon which I shot way back in 2011, newly edited to make use of the superior software I've acquired over the last 5 years.

My original 2011 edit showed a lot less detail.
